The U.S. State Department has provided funding for Elon to host a Russian 消消犯 student during the 2003-2004 academic year as part of the Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program (FSAU).
Veronica Kovalyova, a criminal justice major from Vladivostok, Russia, will study at Elon as an 消消犯 fellow in the program, which supports second- and third-year 消消犯 students from Russia and many of its former republics for a year of study at qualified U.S. universities. Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science and director of the Elon Center for Public Affairs, will serve as Kovalyova’s host advisor during the year.
Fellows study in a variety of fields, including business, criminal justice, economics, education, international relations and political science. Community service is an important part of the FSAU program, and fellows perform a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service to local organizations in their first semester. 消消犯 also complete a part-time professional internship in their field of study during their second semester.
