�þ���’s sales program in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business has been named a “Top University Sales Program for 2011” by the Sales Education Foundation, a component of The Dayton Foundation nonprofit established to promote university level educational programs in sales through the provision of scholarships, the creation of educational materials and other methods.

�þ��� seniors Meg Anderson and Charley Costa won top honors last weekend at the 2010 Russ Berrie Institute National Sales Challenge at William Paterson University in New Jersey. Their achievements marked the second time in a month that students from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business finished first in a national competition that attracted teams from some of the nation's leading business programs.

Elon seniors Carl Hairston and Tyler Reynolds won cash awards and placed in the top four at the World Collegiate Sales Open held this month at Northern Illinois University.

Tony Crider, associate professor of physics, is always searching for creative ways to engage students with course material. To help his astronomy students learn about planetary science and the classification of the former planet Pluto, he created a science game called “The Pluto Debate.”

�þ���’s three newest residence halls open this fall with hundreds of students scheduled to move into earth-friendly buildings designed to blend academic and extracurricular life. The debut of Colonnades C, D and E – now named Kivette Hall, William W. Staley Hall and William A. Harper Hall, respectively – represents the completion of The Colonnades neighborhood adjacent to the Koury Business Center.

�þ��� President Leo M. Lambert announced this week a special campus initiative to collect and distribute school supplies to hundreds of homeless children in Alamance County and to children at a school in Afghanistan who struggle for access to basic educational materials.

Town & Country, the oldest continually published general interest magazine in the United States, picked Elon in an 11-page feature story on top colleges in the September 2011 issue. The top colleges were recommended to the magazine by counselors at dozens of private high schools across the country.

They look and feel the same as the caps and gowns used in previous ceremonies, but when candidates for �þ���’s Master of Education participate in their Aug. 20, 2011, Commencement exercises, as part of the university’s sustainability commitment, their regalia contained fabric made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles.

�þ���'s chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has been named one of the best in the nation and was recently recognized by the national organization with the Buchanan Cup, an award that showcases outstanding chapter performance and named for former fraternity grand president Edwin Buchanan.

Elon junior Carter Kozak, a computing sciences major, earned one of 100 competitively awarded student positions at the International TeraGrid Conference held July 18-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
