Attendees at a NASCAR viewing party this weekend will have a chance to win a new car as five Elon students take part in a national marketing competition.

Two guests, including an Elon freshman, came close to winning a new Chevy as part of the program.

Theresa Helmer, a senior in Elon’s School of Communications, was selected to participate in a November panel discussion titled “A Millennial Perspective on Diversity & Multiculturalism” sponsored by the Mosaic Center of the American Advertising Federation.

School of Communications associate professor and interim department chair Frances Ward-Johnson was an invited speaker at the 11th annual National Black Public Relations Society Conference and Career Fair held Oct. 27-30 in Milwaukee.

Live Oak Communications, Elon's student-run, full-service communications agency, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the spring of 2012.

The Pendulum, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ's daily newsgathering organization, was honored with Best of Show awards from the Associated Collegiate Press on the last day of ACP's joint convention with College Media Advisers Oct. 30 in Orlando, Fla. Representatives from media publications who attend the conference may enter the Best in Show competition. All entries are submitted and judged on site.

J. McMerty, the coordinator of video projects in the School of Communications, was selected as one of 20 faculty members nationwide to participate in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation's Faculty Seminar Nov. 8-12 in Los Angeles.

Randy Piland, a senior lecturer in the School of Communications, spent a couple of weeks this summer providing coverage of the 2011 World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.

Five Elon faculty and a student presented widely at the 2011 meeting of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Held in Milwaukee, Wis., Oct. 20-23, the conference brought together faculty and student scholars from around the world to discuss the latest research on ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and learning.
